December Meeting Notice

Auxiliarists of 8-4 (soon to be 30-4)

Ben Harstad has arranged us a dinner meeting for our December get together.

It will be Tuesday December 22 (that was the only day the restaurant would give us a private room for free)

It will be at Grandma's Restaurant. Remember, the room is ours free as long as we each order at least an appetizer off the menu. Bring a guest if you so desire. More details to come as we get closer to the day.

BM2 Kassbaum passes this on:

BM2 Kassbaum passes on this message.

"Let's Go Fishing Duluth" and Power Squadron member Dave Carlson requests Auxiliary help on Wednesday afternoon. He wants Auxiliarists to give a safety talk and short demo. Here's Jesse's message.

Dave Carlson coordinates Lets Go Fishing with Seniors. He was wondering if maybe an Aux member would be willing to stop by the Primrose Senior housing around 1pm tomorrow (wed 29th) to briefly go over basic boating safety. Mr. Carlson's number is 393-6222.

This sounds like a perfect message for safety experts like Doc, John, Steve, Phill, Rex, Addie, George and Robert to deliver. It's also a good chance for journeymen like Dan, Jim, Scott, Mike, Susie, Ben, Josh, Lori and I to tag along and learn.

Please let me know asap if you can take part in this last second mission. Jesse Kassbaum does apologize for the late notice.

JULY MEETING NOTICE

Auxiliarists:

Please remember that our July meeting is Monday at 1900 hours at Station Duluth.

We'll crow about recent missions like the July 4 parade and fireworks patrol plus the escort mission for the tall ship on the 3rd.

We'll also chat about upcoming missions and take FSO reports. On that note, Jenny J, can you email me a finance report and update on any unpaid members if you can't make it in person?

Please come in uniform and maybe we'll take our 2009 unit photo if it isn't storming too badly. Wear trops if you want to show off your ribbons. Wear ODU's if you want to look rugged and nautical.

Dave Anderson, FC

Postings from the Commander, FL 8-4

Updates: Deb Barland has taken a job as first mate aboard a cruise ship on the Mississippi near Lacrosse, WI. Congrats, Deb! This will keep her away from our flotilla for a good chunk of the operational season. Therefore, retired member Phill Janzig will unretire and help fill Deb's shoes in PE. Newer flotilla members may not know Phil was one of our best safe boating class instructors. Welcome back, Phill!

Due to a death in the family, Raymone Kral has asked to step back from duty for 6 months to put affairs in order. This means Lori Anderson will take over the duties of materials officer. Condolences to Raymone and congrats to Lori.

Thanks: Jim Munger, Dave Anderson and Ben Harstad helped kick of NSBW in style by attending the TV news conference at Station Duluth which was hosted by BMCS Chris Wissen. Ben Harstad, Steve Farrell, Dave Anderson and Lori Anderson manned a PA booth at Hollywood Video and got themselves more PA time on TV. Steve Farrell, George Green, Robert Harris, Jim Munger, Ben Harstad, Lori Anderson and John Whelan performed VSC's at Boy Scout landing and earned the Flotilla yet more PA time on TV. Robert Harris and Lori Anderson did VSC's on the St Louis Sheriff's Department's boats and the duo popped up on TV, of course, when they were covered on the news. George Green, Lori Anderson, Dan Knight, Dave Anderson and Robert Harris rode in John Whelan's boat in the Memorial Day Parade. This time, there was no TV coverage but a lot of personal time was spent pressing the flesh among the thousands who watched the parade from the streets!
